Healthy Homes Initiative

Healthier, Happier Homes: One Child's Story

Funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Healthy Homes Demonstration Program of UMass Lowell’s Center for Family, Work and Community and Institute of Housing Sustainability targets Lowell families With children under 14 years of age who have been diagnosed with asthma.

You may qualify for a free home assessment on air quality and asthma triggers, educational visits from health center staff in English, Spanish, or Khmer, and items to reduce asthma symptoms such as mattress covers, cleaning products, and storage containers. This Initiative provides interventions – vacuums with hepa filters, venting, flooring and other necessary interior repairs to homes and/or products, integrated pest management, and education on ways to keep the home - to improve conditions for these families, improve the indoor air quality and lessen asthma complications.
